How It Works
The vig (vigorish), also called juice, is the sportsbook's built-in commission on every bet. It's why both sides of a standard spread are typically -110 instead of +100.
To calculate vig, first convert each side's American odds to decimal odds, then find the implied probability: IP = 1 / decimal. The vig is: Vig % = (IP_1 + IP_2 - 1) × 100.
For example, -110 / -110 gives implied probabilities of 52.38% each, totaling 104.76%. The vig is 4.76%.
To find fair odds (with vig removed), normalize each probability: Fair Prob = IP / (IP_1 + IP_2), then convert back to American odds.
