Devig Methods Explained
Divides each implied probability by the total. The most common method — proportional vig removal. Each side loses vig in proportion to its probability.
Fair = IP / (IP_A + IP_B)Subtracts equal vig from both sides. Assumes the book takes the same edge on each outcome. Gives the most conservative (least favorable) fair odds for the bettor.
Fair = IP − (overround / 2)Applies an equal exponential factor to both sides. Used by Pinnacle. Slightly favors the underdog and gives the most generous fair odds for the bettor.
Fair = IP^(1/k), where Σ IP^(1/k) = 1Models the book's edge as coming from informed bettors, not uniform vig. More theoretically rigorous, especially in high-liquidity markets like soccer or NFL.
